METHODOLOGY:

  • Sedimentation

PURPOSE:

  • used to check for inflammation of the body
  • abnormal results could mean that one is suffering from some kind of infection, inflammation of the major arteries, lupus, or even anemia

PATIENT PREPARATION:

  • No patient preparation needed

TYPE OF SPECIMEN:

  • Sodium fluoride-treated whole blood

REJECTION OF SPECIMEN:

  • Clotted specimen
  • QNS (quality not sufficient)
  • Incorrect collection tube
  • Improperly labeled tube

RUNNING DAY:

  • Everyday

SPECIMEN STABILITY:

  • ROOM TEMPERATURE (20-24°C)

 

  • REFRIGERATED TEMPERATURE (2-8°C)

 

  • 4 HOURS

 

  • 12 HOURS

RELEASING OF RESULTS:

  • 1 hour and 30 minutes after blood extraction
