- Direct Microscopic Examination

PURPOSE:
|
- used to look for abnormalities in blood cells
- provides information on the number and shape of cells that can help diagnose certain blood disorders or other medical conditions
|
PATIENT PREPARATION:
|
- No patient preparation needed
|
TYPE OF SPECIMEN:
|
- 2mL EDTA whole blood for adults
- slides should be secured on a firm container to prevent breakage
|
REJECTION OF SPECIMEN:
|
- QNS (quality not sufficient)
- improper collection
- specimen storage and transport were outside temperature range
|
RUNNING DAY:
|
|
SPECIMEN STABILITY:
- ROOM TEMPERATURE (20-24°C)
- REFRIGERATED TEMPERATURE (2-8°C)
|
|
RELEASING OF RESULTS:
|
- 3-5 days after specimen collection
