PURPOSE:

  • can help determine your risk of the buildup of plaques in your arteries that can lead to narrowed or blocked arteries throughout your body (atherosclerosis).

PATIENT PREPARATION:

  • No preparation needed

Note: Applicable for cholesterol test only.

TYPE OF SPECIMEN:

  • 2-3 mL of serum (red top)

REJECTION OF SPECIMEN:

  • Hemolyzed specimen
  • Improperly labeled tube

 

RUNNING DAY:

  • Everyday

Note: 11am CUT-OFF FOR COMPLETE BLOOD CHEMISTRY PATIENTS

SPECIMEN STABILITY:

  • ROOM TEMPERATURE (20-24°C)

 

  • REFRIGERATED TEMPERATURE (2-8°C)

 

  • 5 days

 

  • 7 days

RELEASING OF RESULTS:

  • 2-3 hours after blood extraction
