METHODOLOGY:

  • Cholesterol esterase and oxidase
  • Colorimetry

PURPOSE:

  • May be used to help determine the risk of developing heart disease

PATIENT PREPARATION:

  • If test is to be performed as part of lipid profile, fasting for 12-14 hours will be required.

TYPE OF SPECIMEN:

  • 2-3 mL of serum (red top)

REJECTION OF SPECIMEN:

  • Hemolyzed specimen
  • Improperly labeled tube

 

RUNNING DAY:

  • Everyday

SPECIMEN STABILITY:

  • ROOM TEMPERATURE (20-24°C)

 

  • REFRIGERATED TEMPERATURE (2-8°C)

RELEASING OF RESULTS:

  • 2-3 hours after blood extraction
