PURPOSE:

  • Used to evaluate the health of the kidneys and a screening test for renal function
  • Used to monitor effectiveness of dialysis: pre-renal and post-renal

PATIENT PREPARATION:

  • No preparation needed

TYPE OF SPECIMEN:

  • 2-3 mL of serum (red top)

REJECTION OF SPECIMEN:

  • Hemolyzed specimen
  • Improperly labeled tube

 

RUNNING DAY:

  • Everyday

 

SPECIMEN STABILITY:

  • ROOM TEMPERATURE (20-24°C)

 

  • REFRIGERATED TEMPERATURE (2-8°C)

 

  • 3 days

 

  • 4 days

RELEASING OF RESULTS:

  • 2-3 hours after blood extraction
