2-HR POST PRANDIAL GLUCOSE (2HR PPBS)

LABORATORY SECTION:

METHODOLOGY:

  • Glucose Oxidase
  • Colorimetric

PURPOSE:

  • Used to determine how the patient respond to sugar
  • Provides reasonable assessment of postprandial hyperglycemia

PATIENT PREPARATION:

  • Specimen is collected 2 hours after meal. Patient is not allowed to drink water after meal and before the blood extraction

TYPE OF SPECIMEN:

  • 2-3 mL of serum (red top)

REJECTION OF SPECIMEN:

  • Hemolyzed specimen
  • Improperly labeled specimen
  • QNS (quantity not sufficient)

 

RUNNING DAY:

  • Everyday

 

SPECIMEN STABILITY:

  • ROOM TEMPERATURE (20-24°C)

 

  • REFRIGERATED TEMPERATURE (2-8°C)

 

  • 5 days

 

  • 7 days

RELEASING OF RESULTS:

  • 2-3 hours after blood extraction
