LABORATORY SECTION:

METHODOLOGY:

  • Chemical urine test (Reagent impregnated strips)

PURPOSE:

  • Used to monitor and diagnose several diseases and conditions such as urinary tract infection and/or kidney diseases

 

PATIENT PREPARATION:

  • No patient preparation needed

Note: The patient may be required to collect his/her first morning urine or random midstream clean-catch urine sample.

For infants and young children may use clean urine bags for collection

TYPE OF SPECIMEN:

  • 5-10 mL of urine specimen

REJECTION OF SPECIMEN:

  • Contaminated urine specimen
  • Improperly labeled specimen
  • QNS (quantity not sufficient)
  • Patient collected sample during menstruation
  • delayed transport of urine

 

RUNNING DAY:

  • Everyday

 

SPECIMEN STABILITY:

  • ROOM TEMPERATURE (20-24°C)

 

  • REFRIGERATED TEMPERATURE (2-8°C)

 

  • 2 hours

 

  • 24 hours

RELEASING OF RESULTS:

  • 30 minutes
