  • Direct Fecal Smear

PURPOSE:

  • Used in detecting parasitic infection
  • Help diagnose certain conditions affecting the digestive tract.

 

PATIENT PREPARATION:

  • No patient preparation needed

 

TYPE OF SPECIMEN:

  • Pea-sized stool sample in a clean and leak-proof container

REJECTION OF SPECIMEN:

  • Contaminated specimen
  • Improperly labeled specimen
  • QNS (quantity not sufficient)
  • delayed transport of stool

 

RUNNING DAY:

  • Everyday

 

SPECIMEN STABILITY:

  • ROOM TEMPERATURE (20-24°C)

 

  • REFRIGERATED TEMPERATURE (2-8°C)

 

  • 2 hours

 

  • 24 hours

RELEASING OF RESULTS:

  • 30 minutes
