  • use primarily to screen for and diagnose acute or chronic hepatitis B virus  (HBV)infection
  • aids in the detection of previous, resolved hepatitis
  • guides and monitoring of treatment

PATIENT PREPARATION:

  • No patient preparation needed

TYPE OF SPECIMEN:

  • 2-3 mL of serum (red top)

REJECTION OF SPECIMEN:

  • Hemolyzed specimen
  • Improperly labeled tube

 

RUNNING DAY:

  • Everyday

 

SPECIMEN STABILITY:

  • ROOM TEMPERATURE (20-24°C)

 

  • REFRIGERATED TEMPERATURE (2-8°C)

RELEASING OF RESULTS:

  • 2-3 hours after blood extraction
